Christmas Pack & Wrap2003 - Final Update!
Well after a frantic few weeks we are delighted to announce that a massive 864 parcels have been sent out to our boys and girls in the Gulf.
404 of these came from the team in West Yorkshire and 460 from Agnes and Heather in Ayr. It really is a massive achievement and I'd like once again to thank everyone involved for all their help - we really could not have done it without you!
So in the final week we received donations from:
Mr D Cardozo
Mrs D Dilks
Mrs D Mainds
Glenn Linford
A K Hind
R & B Sillence
E M Carter
Mrs S Strickland
Mrs L Gilbert
Mr A Lowe
Jo Ballie
and Kay Heath who sent a beautiful prepared parcel
All the parcels were collected from Ayr and brought down to Bradford where the final arrangements were made. Once again the cadets from the Allerton ACF detachment gave their help, and we were also delighted to be joined by the 12 Regiment recruiting team.
So inspected and reboxed we all heaved a huge sigh of relief as the parcels left on their way to be especially flown over to Iraq. This special flight was organised for us by 12 Regt RA and we are extremely grateful to have been given this concession.
And never letting us down, Nell kept her promise and personally signed Christmas photos to go with each of the parcels. If nothing else then these should bring a bit of cheer!
So thank you all once again and let's hope that the packages do their bit this Christmas!
Update 3rd December Well it really has been a superb week, and it's only partway through! We've received further donations from:
Mr & Mrs N Glen
D Connell
E Strickland
David Binding on behalf of the British Korean Veterans Association
J Fletcher
Mrs J Wood
P Wherlihy
Mrs D Harnell
Many of these have included lovely letters and cards and I'm sure their goodwill will be very much appreciated.
Yesterday was pretty busy to say the least! Thanks to the marvellous help of the Allerton ACF Detachment, 250 parcels are now wrapped and ready to go.
The cadets offered their help a few weeks ago and what a boost it's been. As I pulled in my car laden with parcels a line of volunteers came marching to meet me and the unloading was done in a matter of minutes. In the same super efficient way the parcels were wrapped. It really was a sight to see and I can't begin to say how grateful I am for their help - the work they did would have taken me days!
Once again the Yorkshire Post and Telegraph & Argus came along and took some pictures, Look North featured the campaign in their lunchtime programme resulting in lots of hits to the site and hopefully more donations on the way and Radio Leeds again ran a live interview - thanks guys, your support is invaluable!
So a big thank you once again to all the cadets and to Lieutenant Potts for all their help, and see you next week for part 2!
Today I received a call from Stylo Shoes saying they had 150 shoe boxes ready to collect, and the Addingham Branch of the Royal British Legion dropped off fifteen carriers of goodies for the parcels. Unfortunately I wasn't there to personally accept these gifts but as I've gone through them this evening it's clear that a tremendous amount of thought has gone into them. There are beautiful packets of Whitakers Sweets, toiletries and perfume for the girls as well as the lads, hangover sweets!!, everything really was fabulous and another big thank you goes out to everyone who contributed. These items will be very well received I'm sure.
And to round things off perfectly, I received a call from Richard and Elaine from the Copper Beech Club in Baildon to say they had a big box of goodies ready to collect. Again so much thought has gone into the contents, socks, toiletries, crackers, everything was included. Thank you both so much.
The Copper Beech Club are also holding a fundraising event on Friday to hopefully raise funds for more parcels which is superb.
Finally for this update, we've had some absolutely superb news which I can't yet give out but I will say that not only has there been an excellent response for the troops from this campaign, but what we have tried to achieve for them has also been recognised!
You can guess away but we are delighted and I will let everyone know as soon as I'm able.
Thank you all once again.
Update 26th November
This is just a very quick update as we are literally up to our eyes at the moment in parcels. The response to this project has been overwhelming and it really is so good to know that there are people around who are still prepared to show their support for our troops.
I have at the moment 250 parcels made up and still lots of goodies to fill more. An SOS Scotland update will be given soon but Agnes and Heather are also well on track so between us we should come very close to sending those 1,000 packages out.
The Yorkshire Post and Telegraph & Argus have both run superb articles, and the project has also been featured on The Pulse and Garrison Radio. Thanks to all of those responsible for their continued support!

I have tried to thank everyone personally but not all have sent an address and there have been other completely anonymous donations. But please do know how much the contributions have meant to us and how much the parcels will be appreciated.
I'd also like to thank One Stop in Crossflatts, Bingley for their fabulous gift of goodies, Sainsbury's at Greengates and Tesco, Bradford for the vouchers they kindly sent and to all the customers and staff at Safeway in Bingley who have collected so far two enormous boxes of goods. Every contribution is very gratefully received. Also to Morrisons in Skipton who have placed a box in their store for donations.
And of course continued thanks for the shoeboxes!!! from Shoe Express, Keighley, Johnathon James, Keighley, Sports Shoes Unlimited, Shipley and Priceless Shoes, Greengates.
There's also excellent news on the packing front. Last week I did a presentation to the Army Cadets in Thornton and besides all adding to the collection box they have volunteered to run a big pack and wrap evening soon. That is wonderful news and will save us many hours. Thanks to Lieutenant Potts for giving us this opportunity!
Huge thanks also to Pam James and her team from the local Soroptomists who wrapped a massive 50 parcels over the weekend which has helped tremendously.
I think that's about it for now. Will update again as soon as there's a moment!
Thanks all again.
